approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), UK. It is advisable but not mandatory to
get your MCA approved Notice of Eligibility (NoE) before going to UK for study.








(Seafarers with Indian Class 4 NCV or Panama / Belize watch keeping may also apply for
their Class 4 FG CoC course in UK. Fitter's sea service of upto 21 months before watch
keeping certificate will also be counted for UK Class 4 CoC from Jan 2014.)


(Get your MCA, UK Class 4 FG CoC in 5 months, coastal service without boilers also
acceptable provided you do a 1 day boiler course at WMA. India TRB's are not accepted in UK as
you have to compulsorily sail with a UK MNTB TRB. Else, sail with an ISF TRB and give your Class
4 CoC from New Zealand and later return to UK for your 2nd and Chief Engineer CoC.)


(Sea service done as an ETO is not acceptable for giving your exams in the UK. Electrical Officers
can however complete 36 months of sea service in the Engine Room of a merchant ship with engine
power over 750 KW whilst completing the 6 months with the ISF TRB and then proceed to New
Zealand for doing their Class 4 CoC exams.)


(Get your MCA, UK Class 2 FG CoC in minimum period of 5 months, coastal service without
boilers also acceptable. Private tuitions available in Mumbai for the Academic Subjects.)

  • Helping students apply for Notice of Eligibility (NoE) and / or Letter of Initial Assessment (LIA) to the MCA.
  • Assisting students in making the Demand Draft in Pounds if they face any difficulty or are on board the ship.
  • Filling Deck / Engine course booking form, sending students documents to college, receiving their admission letters and
    posting to them.
  • Providing supporting documents from college, MCA, etc. for education loans including loan letters of past students.
  • Complete guidance for the visa application process in terms of visa form filling, which documents to attach, how to show
    funds in account, etc. Visa assistance for student's spouses if they wish to join the student later on.
  • Arranging flight tickets with excess baggage for students for both onward and return journey.
  • Introduction with other students going for the same course and ensuring that nobody has to travel alone.
  • Giving contact details of landlords, estate agents, past students and Bed & Breakfasts in UK who will be of assistance in
    getting accommodation on arrival in the UK.
  • Arranging international student debit cards for all students for easy carriage of money to the college.
  • Guidance regarding working part-time / full time to students during their stay in the UK. How and where to apply for such
    jobs.
  • Any other reasonable assistance as may be required by the students.

Please read below for conditions under which a student would not be
eligible to give EOOW (earlier called as Class 4) exams in UK but may have
the option of giving their Class 4 CoC exams in New Zealand and return
back to Warsash Maritime Academy, Southampton, UK for their future 2nd
Engineer and Chief Engineer CoC examinations.

  • Engine Ratings sailing in the rank of a WIPER  would not be eligible
    to give their exams in UK as WIPER rank is only associated with
    cleaning duties. WIPER ranks are accepted by Maritime New Zealand
    for doing their Class 4 CoC from New Zealand.
  • BE Mechanical / Marine, GME, HND and Mechanical Diploma
    students who have not sailed with a UK MNTB Training Record Book
    would not be eligible to do their Class 4 CoC from WMA, UK. They
    can however sail with an ISF Training Record Book (TRB) and do
    their Class 4 CoC exams in New Zeland. ISF TRB's are available at
    our office in Mumbai at a cost of 2,700 Rs/-. We can courier the ISF
    TRB to your home address within India by Blue Dart courier for an
    additional courier charge of 300 Rs/-.

Students have the option of doing their 2nd
Mates and Chief Mates FG Sri CoC course from
Srilanka.

After obtaining a 2nd Mates Srilankan CoC, a
student may come to Warsash Maritime
Academy, Southampton, UK for their Chief
Mates, UK CoC course or pursue their higher
Srilankan Chief Mates CoC courses from
Srilanka itself.

A Srilankan 2nd Mates CoC is helpful for
students who:

(a) do not have sufficient funds to apply for a UK
visa or to study 2nd Mates CoC course in the UK
(b) have not been able to clear the IELTS
English test which is a visa requirement for the
2nd Mates course in UK
(c) have got their UK visas refused in the past.

Please note that you will be getting a Srilankan
2nd Mates CoC and not a MCA, UK 2nd Mates
CoC in Srilanka.

Deck Cadets from India (DNS / HND / Belize / non DG) have to do complete 36 months of sea service to do their 2nd Mates FG
from UK. They can however give 2nd Mates exams from Australia after completing 18 months of sea service + 6 months with
Australian TRB. After doing 2nd Mates from Australia, they need to complete a minimum of 12 months of sea service (out of
which 9 months as Deck Officers) and can come to Warsash Maritime Academy, Southampton, UK for doing their Chief Mates
course. Alternatively, they may opt to do their Chief Mates from Australia itself.
